Description
Photo taken in July, 2016 @ Zoo Dierenrijk, The Netherlands
It was a peculiar visit that day; we had gone to the zoo in the hopes of seeing the European Wolf pups. Unfortunately, as soon as we'd come close enough to the enclosure to see it, we spotted an unmanned maintenance vehicle inside. This normally means, no animals. We were right: the Brown Bears and Wolves didn't show up that day, while we were there.
The Siberian Tigers are located opposite that enclosure, with a playground and tall hedges in between. First, it was Laszlo who stood staring straight out of the window, seemingly right towards where that vehicle was located (even though it was hard to spot) and a woman was convinced he wanted to look at the Bears (when they weren't even out) and I shouldn't crouch in front to get an frontal portrait.
He walked away that first attempt, but he came back and posed for us, rather prettily.
When he'd lost interest, that of Laila was piqued and she stood up from her perch to stare intently. Turns out, they were waiting for the keepers to arrive with their food.
Anyhoo, seeing how the twins didn't really seemed to mind our present, it was a perfect opportunity to play with our cameras and try for some new things. That's when we remembered the I Challenge You v.2 - 1 week left! challenge we were issued by JenFruzz: "Potograph a wild animal in black and white paying close attention to contrast and highlights to create a dramatic scene."
We're really happy with this black and white photo, even though it might not have been as dramatic as possible. But all animals we encountered during the time of the challenge were rather, well, sleepy
