Description
Photo taken in July, 2013 @ Allwetter Zoo Münster, Germany
This is one photo of the Egyptian Fruit Bats on the floor, munching on their bananas, in which you can see the top one is covering another one, who's head you can see beneath his armpit.
Species: Egyptian Fruit Bat or Rousette (Nijlroezet)
Latin name: Rousettes Aegyptiacus
Originates from Africa and the Middle East, except for the desert regions.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Egyptian Fruit Bat is a relatively small, nocturnal Bat that is often referred to as a Flying Fox due to its long, dog-like muzzle.
…They use echolocation to hunt down their prey, but are also able to use vocalized communication, so it’s not uncommon for a colony of these Bats to make a deafening cacophony.
…Bats are the only mammals naturally capable of true and sustained flight thanks to their forelimbs forming webbed wings.
…Unlike birds, who flap their entire forelimbs, Bats only flap their spread-out digits, which are very long and covered with a thin membrane or patagium.
