Photo taken in August, 2013 @ BestZOO, The Netherlands
If you read my journals, you probably know the male Sri Lankan Leopard cub past away mid October.
In honor of the cutie he was, here's a lovely photo of the little sweetheart (and because I'm pretty behind with submitting my photos).
Species: Sri Lankan Leopard (Sri Lankaanse panter)
Latin name: Panthera Pardus Kotiya
Originates from Sri Lanka.
Current status: Endangered
Did you know:
…The Sri Lankan Leopard was only first described in 1956, by the Sri Lankan zoologist Deraniyagala.
…Its Latin addition “kotiya” is a Sinhala name, but has been often wrongly translated as “Tiger” due to incorrect information, mistaking Leopards for “diviya”, the Sinhala term for small wild cats; since then, “kotiya” has been used for Tigers, and “diviya” for Leopards.
Please respect the copyright on my photos. If you want to use any of them, ask my permission first.
Of course you may I value your asking my permission, but honestly, ít'd be an honor
Though this photo shows the female cub, who did survive Her brother sadly, had a mishap while playing - a rupture in his diaphragma, I believe. Nobody knew something was the matter, until they found his body the next morning
