Description
Photo taken in July, 2013 @ BestZOO, The Netherlands
The Sri Lankan Leopard twin cubs look so peaceful sleeping in this photo. You can see pretty clearly that the one in front - resting her head on the other's paws as a pillow - is the little female. Her head is way smaller.
Took this nearly three months before her brother, in the back, would pass away.
I'm really glad I still have these photos though, to remember them both together .
Species: Sri Lankan Leopard (Sri Lankaanse panter)
Latin name: Panthera Pardus Kotiya
Originates from Sri Lanka.
Current status: Endangered
Did you know:
…The Sri Lankan Leopard was only first described in 1956, by the Sri Lankan zoologist Deraniyagala.
…Its Latin addition “kotiya” is a Sinhala name, but has been often wrongly translated as “Tiger” due to incorrect information, mistaking Leopards for “diviya”, the Sinhala term for small wild cats; since then, “kotiya” has been used for Tigers, and “diviya” for Leopards.
