Description

Photo taken in July, 2013 @ BestZOO, The Netherlands

A friend of mine studies Wildlife Conservation and Livestock, and thanks to that study and her fellow students, she comes to places some people like me can only dream of. A while ago, she'd posted a photo of herself and her friend holding twin Leopards that were kept in incubators. She told me they had been born at Best Zoo (Best is a town, it doesn't say anything about it being the best ;)) and I was thinking I'd never get a chance to see them.
But my sister was adamant; she wanted to go there, because they didn't only have those Sri Lankan Leopard twin cubs, but also Chacoan Mara twin babies.
And we got a great look at all babies - the Chacoan Maras and the surprise of a young Tamandua - and these young and playful Sri Lankan Leopard cubs.
As of yet, they do not have names yet. Together, me and my sister tried to identify the male and female, and we've concluded this to be the female cub.

Species: Sri Lankan Leopard (Sri Lankaanse panter)
Latin name: Panthera Pardus Kotiya
Originates from Sri Lanka.
Current status: Endangered
Did you know:
...The Sri Lankan Leopard was only first described in 1956, by the Sri Lankan zoologist Deraniyagala.
…Its Latin addition “kotiya” is a Sinhala name, but has been often wrongly translated as “Tiger” due to incorrect information, mistaking Leopards for “diviya”, the Sinhala term for small wild cats; since then, “kotiya” has been used for Tigers, and “diviya” for Leopards.
