Description
When: July 26, 2017
Where: Zie-Zoo Volkel, The Netherlands
The kind of difference only a few months - they grow so quickly in just 4 months time. Remember what these Silver Foxes looked like in April, as teeny-tiny kits? They're almost entirely grown up at this point. Their fur coats are so shiny and full - which is how you can tell the young ones from the adults, who still look thin and got their Summer coats while the young ones seemed to bask in their voluminous hair
Their faces do still speak of youthful mischief, which always makes it fun to watch them and hope for the unexpected
Species: Red Fox (Rode vos)
Latin name: Vulpes Vulpes
Originates from the entire Northern Hemisphere, and has been introduced to Australia.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Red Fox is the largest of the three true Foxes, and the most geographically spread.
…It distinguishes itself in its ability to adapt quickly to new and changed environments, and is not enlisted as endangered anywhere.
…Despite its name, the Red Fox is known to appear in abnormal colorings, such as albinos and melanists.
… Silver Foxes are a mutation of the Red Fox, bred for their fur and now finding their way into life-long homes at zoos, saved from being skinned and their pelts sold.
