Description
When: January 28, 2018
Where: Zoo Duisburg, Germany</blockquote>
This enclosure was very well hidden; if not for our parents who had walked 3 or more times around the zoo and seen everything multiple times, we would not have known how to find the Reeve's Muntjac. We can see them in our local zoo, too, so we could have skipped them if not for this most adorable little calf
At first, he had gone back inside where we couldn't see them but with mostly all of the animals during this visit, we were very lucky indeed in that he came back out and showed himself off rather well
Species: Reeve’s Muntjac (Chinese muntjak)
Latin name: Muntiacis Reevesi
Originates from southeastern China and Taiwan, but has been introduced in The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Reeve’s Muntjac is also known as the Barking Deer, because of it’s distinctive bark.
…It’s name is derived from John Reeves, who was appointed Assistant Inspector of Tea, for the British East India Company in 1812.
