Description
When: April 20, 2017
Where: Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands
It's always so much - and I must say, we have been very lucky this year - to see Wallaby joeys in the phase where they're kind of still too young (and naked) to go out of the pouch. This one wasn't really sure whether or not he wanted to be outside, but his mother wanted him outside for a bit, it seemed. He stayed really close, in het shade where he could, but didn't really make a jump inside the minute he got the chance. This must have been near the turning point where being outside turned out to be actual fun
Species: Parma Wallaby (Parma Wallaby)
Latin name: Macropus parma
Originates from New South Wales, Australia
Current status: Near Threatened
Did you know:
.. In the Nineteenth century it was believed the Parma Wallaby was extinct, but in 1965 and 1967 wild populations were found and captured for breeding/preservation purposes. Now the Parma Wallaby is not common, but not extinct either.
