World In Another by Mouselemur World In Another by Mouselemur
When: December 6, 2017
Where: Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands

When you've taken a lot of photos of the Servals at this zoo already, it's a fun challenge to try and take a "new", more original photo.
With the fencing posing a challenge of itself, this compositoon came to be and I must say, I rather like it :D Instead of just focusing on a Serval's big ears, now their rather impressive long neck is on display too :)

Species: Serval

Latin name: Leptailurus Serval

Originiates from Africa.

Current status: Least Concern

 Did you know:

…DNA studies have shown that the Serval is closely related to the African Wild Cat, and the Caracal.

…Its long legs make it able for the Serval to achieve a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph).

…The white spots on the back of the Serval’s ears are called “ocelli” and are used to signal kittens when hunting.

Nice photo but you can see the sadness in the eyes of the captured wild animal. ...

Thank you :)
Knowing the good life these Servals have, and never having known the wild and its dangers, I personally don't think it's sadness you see in the eyes.
I personally prefer a darker tone in my photos, and this has resulted (in this photo) in darker eyes. Combined with the lowered brow, it's easy to think the Serval looks sad. However, it's a look on them you see often - the same goes for Maned Wolves. It's the make-up of their face :)

AWW! Precious munchkin  Great angle and the focus is really nice too!! You should throw this into a photo editor and up your exposure and whites a little bit. It will bring some brightness into the piece overall and help highlight those amazing patterns in the fur :eager:

Yes, they're adorable looking but not even close to house cats when you take a good look at them :)

Thank you - on both counts :D
I like learning about the animals I photograph myself, and I've learned a lot of people enjoy learning about them with me :)
These Servals especially are amazing to watch - they well smooch each other and next thing, get involved in a big fight!
